the intention was to market affordable art — focusing on printmaking for cultural and economic influence. in 1934, Associated American Artists was created by reeves lewenthal.
some of the best regionalist artists of the time were hired to create plates. limited to editions of only 125 or 250 impressions, these included lithographs, etchings, and engravings. available in department stores nationally and later via post. AAA was closed by liberty media in 2000.
